Trees will be the topic of discussion as Project 88 turns 20. Celebrating the milestone, a two-part project by Prajna Desai titled Never Was a Shade will open on May 14. Part one will feature artists like Bansri Chavda, Claire Baker, Debabatra Hazra, Nisha Manavi, among other notable names. Gallerist Sree Goswami (below) told this diarist, "The exhibition worked out quite serendipitously - my personal collection has many tree-related works, something I am passionate about. When Prajna approached me, it perfectly dovetailed with our twentieth-year programming."

The conductor's likeness is part of a special mural commissioned by the Embassy of Israel in New Delhi to memorialise his cultural connection to the country.

Commissioned almost a year ago, the mural designed by the Delhi-based art platform Imagenation Street Art, was released at the Lodhi Art District last weekend. Mehta began his journey with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 1969, going on to become its Music Director for Life. No wonder then, that the mural depicts him amidst his favourite activity.
