The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licence of a Domino's Pizza outlet in Parel and revoked the licence of Maaz Food Parcel and Catering in Bhandup after inspections allegedly revealed serious food safety and hygiene violations.
The Domino's outlet, operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd at Rangoli Time Complex on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, had been served an improvement notice on August 11. However, a surprise inspection on October 9 found that the directives had not been complied with, officials said.
Inspectors found vegetarian and non-vegetarian food stored together in a deep freezer, while chicken and paneer were being prepared on the same oven/grill. The outlet also failed to produce conformity reports for food-contact packaging, records of delivery vehicles and preventive maintenance logs for critical equipment. Its licence was suspended on October 12.
At Maaz Food Parcel and Catering on LBS Marg in Sonapur, Bhandup West, inspectors found cockroaches in the kitchen, clogged drains, unlabelled prepared food and the use of unauthorised artificial colouring. The establishment was also found using a cheaper fat spread while charging customers for butter. Food handlers were working without gloves or aprons, while raw vegetarian and non-vegetarian ingredients were being handled on common chopping boards. Its licence was revoked on Tuesday, October 13.
The action is part of a statewide enforcement drive led by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe to check food safety violations during the festive season. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the FDA seized 12,382 kg of suspected adulterated edible oil worth R23.35 lakh from Bajrang Trading Company. In Beed, prohibited items and a vehicle collectively valued at R10 lakh were seized, and an FIR was registered.

In a separate action, the FDA raided Mughal Dhaba, opposite Kalpana Cinema in Kurla West, on October 8 following a complaint alleging that stale food had been delivered through Zomato.
