A minor fire was reported at City Mall in Andheri area of Mumbai on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred near the PVR Cinema on New Link Road at around 2.20 pm, according to civic officials.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade responded quickly and managed to douse the fire after a little over 40 minutes. The fire was fully extinguished at 3.03 pm, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
No injuries were reported in the incident. As a precautionary measure, the BMC mobilised the Mumbai Police, an ambulance under the 108 emergency service, the local ward office, and Adani Electricity to cut off the power supply during the firefighting operation.
A large amount of smoke was seen billowing from the rooftop of City Mall and spreading to nearby buildings, causing concern among residents and passers-by. However, fire officials confirmed that the blaze was minor and was brought under control quickly.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and a probe was underway.
