Five prominent roads of Bandra, namely Linking Road, Carter Road, CD Road, KC Road, and Juhu Tara Road, will get a heritage lighting facelift. These roads are popular and have a high footfall of visitors. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to use heritage lighting to improve visibility, pedestrian safety, and aesthetics of the area.

What project involves

>> Fixing approximately 190 decorative heritage lights consisting of double arms
>> According to BMC, the lights would have a dynamic effect, ultimately attracting tourists
>> While five prominent roads have been selected, the project may be scaled at a later stage

Need for project

>> To ensure proper illumination levels
>> To achieve energy efficiency compliance

Why these roads...

>> Linking Road is famous for street shopping
>> Carter Road has a 1.2 km coastal promenade
>> CD Road, KC Road, and Juhu Tara Road are prominent residential areas that see vehicular traffic due to their connectivity to the Coastal Road

Earlier facelifts

The BMC had earlier given a heritage facelift to several arterial roads in South Mumbai, including Fashion Street, the Gateway of India precinct, and Kala Ghoda.
