For 12-year-old Aditya Yadav, Monday's journey to cricket coaching turned into an innings he hadn't signed up for. The Std VI student from Wadala was stranded for over an hour and a half between Ghatkopar and Vikhroli, unsure whether he would make it to Cricket Mantras academy in Nahur West for his 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm session.
"I don't know whether I will be able to reach my ground by 5 or 5.30 pm," Aditya told mid-day. "I have heard that Central Railway runs late, but usually it is just 15 minutes. Today it is late by more than one to two hours. I will not be able to reach the academy even by 5.30 pm."
While many passengers grew anxious, the Class VI student stood by the train door, teasing people walking along the tracks below.
"Such a journey you get once a year," he said, seemingly enjoying the unexpected adventure.
Aditya has been training at the academy for four years and regularly makes the long commute from Wadala. Asked who his role model was, he paused.
"What is a role model?" he asked, before settling on the word "inspiration". "Of course, the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar," he said.
For many other passengers, the delay was no laughing matter. Several climbed down from halted trains and walked along the tracks, exposing themselves to danger as trains continued to run on adjacent lines.
Passengers also complained that they received little information about the cause of the disruption or how long they would remain stranded.
