A Churchgate-bound fast local was held up for nearly 10 minutes at Borivali Railway Station on Wednesday after a quarrel broke out among passengers in the Divyangjan coach, following an alleged dispute over a mute passenger trying to enter the coach.
The 10:33 am Churchgate fast local train, which originated from Virar at 9:56 am, was reportedly halted after the mute passenger pulled the emergency chain during the altercation.
According to female commuters travelling in the adjoining ladies' coach, a senior citizen passenger who allegedly travels on the same train daily had prevented the mute passenger from entering the Divyangjan coach, triggering the confrontation.
The commuters claimed that the elderly passenger frequently creates a ruckus on the train.
While some women passengers demanded that the senior citizen be taken into custody, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel reportedly asked only the mute passenger who had pulled the chain to deboard.
The senior citizen was allowed to continue his journey on the same train.
The matter resurfaced at Andheri Railway Station, where railway officials again confronted the senior citizen. The train was reportedly detained for another seven minutes as officials spoke to the passenger.
Despite repeated complaints from female commuters, the senior citizen was not asked to deboard and continued travelling on the train.
