Monsoon activity remained active across Maharashtra on Wednesday, with several parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha receiving rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) evening weather bulletin.
In Konkan, Santacruz and Dahanu recorded the highest rainfall at 108 mm each during the 24-hour period ending at 5.30 pm on Wednesday. Ratnagiri received 48 mm, Alibag 33 mm, and Mumbai (Colaba) 30 mm.
In Western Maharashtra, Mahabaleshwar recorded 42 mm of rainfall, followed by Lohgaon (11 mm), Pune (10 mm), Kolhapur (7 mm), Nashik (7 mm), Sangli (2 mm), Jalgaon (1 mm), Satara (1 mm), Solapur (0.3 mm), and Ahilyanagar (0.2 mm).
Marathwada witnessed light rainfall, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recording 37 mm, Beed 3 mm, Dharashiv 2 mm, and Parbhani receiving negligible rainfall.
In Vidarbha, Chandrapur received 10 mm of rainfall, followed by Gondia (9 mm) and Nagpur (2 mm), while Akola, Amravati, Brahmapuri, Washim, and Wardha did not record rainfall during the observation period. Yavatmal also reported negligible rainfall.
The IMD bulletin also showed that Jalgaon recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 35.8 degrees Celsius, while Mahabaleshwar registered the lowest minimum temperature at 16.6 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rainfall activity across Maharashtra over the next week due to active monsoon systems.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, said several weather systems are likely to trigger widespread rainfall, including heavy to very heavy spells, particularly over Konkan and the adjoining ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra.
According to the IMD, an offshore trough at mean sea level persists from south Gujarat to Karnataka. An upper air cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal is expected to lead to the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal around July 3. A trough extending from this system across central India to the northeast Arabian Sea is also expected to influence rainfall over Maharashtra.
Under the influence of these weather systems, widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy showers at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Konkan and the ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra between July 1 and July 7.
Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall are expected over parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, while Vidarbha is likely to witness thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places till July 4.
