Mumbai witnessed intense downpour on Wednesday, with heavy rainfall lashing parts of the city and suburbs, leading to localised flooding, fallen trees and disruption in some low-lying areas.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the eastern suburbs recorded an average rainfall of 99 mm by 6 pm, while the western suburbs received 90 mm. The island city recorded comparatively lower rainfall at 49 mm.
Among individual weather stations, Santacruz recorded 108 mm of rainfall. Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli received 143 mm, while Nariyal Wadi in Santacruz recorded 137 mm during the observation period.

The BMC received complaints of flooding from parts of Andheri, Santacruz, Khar, Bandra, Kurla, Vikhroli, Powai, Ghatkopar, Bhandup and Mulund, officials said.
Civic teams were deployed with pumps and emergency staff to clear the accumulated water. Officials later confirmed that water had receded from the affected areas.
The city also reported one rain-related fatality after the body of 33-year-old Mohammad Ali Khan, who had gone missing after being swept away in Vashi Creek on June 29, was recovered near Trombay Jetty on Wednesday. He was declared dead on arrival at Rajawadi Hospital. Police are investigating the incident, the officials said.
The BMC also recorded:
- 45 incidents of fallen trees and branches
- Three cases of partial wall or house collapses
- Seven short-circuit incidents
No additional injuries were reported in these incidents, officials said.
Despite the heavy rain, road traffic and Mumbai's suburban railway services continued to operate normally.
Mumbai civic officials said that they are closely monitoring vulnerable locations as more rain is expected over the next 24 hours.
The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours, accompanied by occasional gusty winds.
A high tide of 4.27 metres is expected at 1.45 pm on Thursday, raising the possibility of fresh waterlogging in low-lying areas if heavy rainfall continues.
