Mumbai: Mulund railway station’s jodi bridges to open by March 2026

The long-awaited "jodi" bridges at Mulund railway station are finally taking shape and are expected to be opened for public use by March 2026. As part of the upgrade, the station is getting an elevated deck equipped with 14 staircases, seven escalators and two elevators, along with a new entrance plaza and seamless integration of all foot overbridges (FOBs). At the CSMT-end, the jodi connector bridge will link the upcoming east-west BMC bridge with a new, wider railway FOB, significantly improving cross-station movement.

"The railway FOB at the CSMT end is eight metres wide and 45 metres long, with wide staircases and decks opening directly onto platforms. Platform 1 will get a three-metre-wide staircase and a 10.5-metre-wide deck extending up to the platform edge, along with an UP escalator. Columns have been erected on Platforms 2 and 3, while Platform 4 is being connected to the public FOB on the east. This will ease peak-hour congestion, which currently forces commuters onto tracks and stairways," a senior official said.

The elevator platform

A second major dispersal point is coming up at the Kalyan end in the form of a 6-metre-wide, 43-metre-long north FOB. Foundations and columns are progressing across platforms, with UP escalators planned on the CSMT side and wide staircases on the Kalyan side to balance commuter flows throughout the day.

The biggest component of the project is a 165-metre-long and 16.5-metre-wide elevated deck along Platform 1, being executed in phases. Foundations and columns are already visible at the CSMT end and mid-station, while work on the remaining stretch has begun. Once completed, the deck will function as a linear concourse parallel to the platform, providing multiple vertical exits and reducing choke points.

A new 8-metre-wide, 56-metre-long FOB will replace the existing 4.5-metre structure, which will be dismantled only after the new CSMT-end FOB is commissioned. The plan also includes a new west-side entrance plaza, relocation of railway offices to free up passenger space, and improved circulation areas on the west side.
