Mumbai Port Authority marks 154th Foundation Day, unveils projects worth Rs 5,028 crore

Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) celebrated its 154th Foundation Day on Thursday by unveiling 63 projects with a combined investment of Rs 5,028.17 crore, reflecting its focus on infrastructure development, tourism, logistics and sustainable growth, reported PTI.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the projects were announced across three categories. These include:

Focus on growth and modernisation

During the event, senior policymakers highlighted Mumbai Port's historic role in India's maritime sector while underlining its efforts to embrace future opportunities through cruise tourism, waterfront development, green initiatives and efficient use of port assets.

Officials also noted that Mumbai Port achieved its highest-ever cargo throughput of 70 million tonnes, describing it as a major milestone for the organisation, as per the news agency.

They stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in improving operational efficiency, enhancing services and supporting future growth.

Sonowal highlights Mumbai Port's contribution

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated Mumbai Port Authority on completing 154 years of service and recalled its significant contribution to Mumbai's emergence as India's financial and commercial capital.

"Mumbai Port occupies a special place in India's maritime journey and is creating new opportunities for investment, tourism, logistics and energy security," Sonowal said, reported the news agency.

He added that every achievement of the institution was the result of the collective efforts of officers, employees, workers, port users and other stakeholders.

The minister highlighted several major initiatives currently being undertaken by Mumbai Port Authority, including the International Cruise Terminal, ferry jetty projects, the Jawahar Dweep reclamation project and various energy infrastructure developments.

Aa per the news agency, a special Foundation Day film was screened during the programme, showcasing the history of Mumbai Port Authority and its contribution to the country's maritime growth over the decades.

Agreements signed during the event

The celebrations also witnessed the exchange of two key agreements: The Indira Dock Operations and Maintenance Agreement and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Agreement.

According to officials, these agreements form part of Mumbai Port Authority's broader strategy to strengthen port operations, promote waterfront development and ensure optimal utilisation of port assets.
