Two brothers were killed after the motorcycle they were travelling on crashed into the protective wall of a building on Nanabhai Moosa Marg in Colaba, Mumbai, early Wednesday morning.
The victims have been identified as Sumit Satwan Valmiki, 22, and his brother Sanju Satwan Valmiki, 15. Both were residents of Ganeshmurti Nagar in Cuffe Parade and hailed from Pipri in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district.
According to the police, the accident took place between 4.45 am and 5 am when Sumit was riding the motorcycle along the northbound carriageway of Nanabhai Moosa Marg.
The motorcycle allegedly rammed into the protective wall of the Gangotri building, leaving both brothers with serious injuries to their heads and faces.
Both succumbed to their injuries.
Police have registered an accidental death report in connection with the incident. The bodies have been sent to Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital for post-mortem examinations to ascertain the exact cause of death.
A forensic team also visited the accident site and collected samples as part of the investigation.
Police are probing the circumstances that led to the crash.
In a separate incident, three people were killed and another was critically injured after a BMW crashed on Mumbai Coastal Road on September 20, police said.
The accident was reported at around 5.20 am when the car was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. According to information provided by the Coastal Road Control Room, the vehicle was allegedly travelling at high speed when the driver lost control near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College.
All four occupants of the car were rushed to the civic-run Nair Hospital following the crash. The hospital later confirmed that three had been declared brought dead, while the fourth occupant was admitted to the trauma ward in a critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Shanay Gajjal, 21, and Dhirya Seth, 17. The identity of the third deceased, a man believed to be around 25 years old, was not immediately known.
The injured occupant, Aditya Oswal, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the trauma ward.
Shanay Gajjar, who allegedly drove the BMW that plunged off the Coastal Road, was found partly inside the mangled vehicle, with his leg reportedly still on the accelerator, police said.
The circumstances surrounding Gajjar's position inside the wreckage remain unclear. Police are investigating whether he was attempting to free himself, get out of the vehicle or help the other occupants.
However, with Gajjar and the two other occupants dead and the sole survivor, Aditya Oswal, still unconscious at Breach Candy Hospital, police do not have an eyewitness account of the moments immediately following the crash.
