Mumbai: Seven gas cylinders explode after fire breaks out at BMC labour camp in Mulund East

Seven gas cylinders exploded after a fire broke out at a labour camp at a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation PAP project in Tata Nagar, Navghar Road, Mulund East, on Thursday afternoon, raising concerns about safety arrangements at the crowded workers' accommodation.

The fire was reported at 1.54 pm, following which the fire brigade arrived at the spot. The fire was declared Level-I by the Mumbai Fire Brigade officials at 2.05 pm. According to officials, all the workers were evacuated safely, and no casualties were reported.

DCP East Zone-III Abhaysingh Deshmukh said the fire was suspected to have started following a gas cylinder explosion. "Following the fire, seven gas cylinders exploded. Fire Brigade personnel are present at the spot, and firefighting operations are underway. No casualty or fatality has been reported so far," he said.
