The stabbing to death of a 22-year-old passenger on a local train was raised in the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday. Calling the incident a serious matter, Congress MLA Nana Patole demanded a discussion in the House. Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar directed the state government to make a statement on the incident.
After the Question Hour session, the state Legislative Assembly, Patole raised the issue of the recent murder on a Mumbai local train on the Western Railway line. Expressing concern over the safety of railway passengers and people on the streets, Patole said the incident was a matter of urgent public concern and demanded a discussion in the Maharashtra Assembly.
Earlier, on January 25, a college professor was stabbed to death after a minor argument while getting off a Mumbai local train at Malad railway station.
Agreeing that passenger safety is a serious issue, Narwekar stated, "The state government should make a statement on this issue by Monday evening [the first day of the second week of the ongoing monsoon session of the state legislature]."
