The Vikhroli police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly attacking his friend with a liquor bottle over a dispute of Rs 500. The victim sustained injuries to his head and neck and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The incident took place Swayambhuj Hanuman Nagar in Kannamwar, Vikhroli (East) late on Tuesday night.

The accused, Narendra Chudawat (24) and victim Rajesh Vilas Chavan live in the same area and are known to each other. The police said that the two were drinking alcohol at an isolated spot behind a lavatory in the area, when a heated argument broke out between the two over Rs 500.

The fight took an ugly turn when Chudawat punched Chavan in the face and then hit him with the liquor bottle on his head. Chudawat did not stop at that; he then attacked Chavan with the broken pieces of liquor bottle. Chavan sustained serious injuries to his head and neck.

Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital and the police were informed. The police arrested the accused and booked him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, a sub-inspector from Vikhroli police station said. He will be produced in court on Wednesday evening.
