Mumbai and neighbouring Thane remain on alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the region on Thursday.
According to the IMD's morning weather bulletin issued at 8 am, the city is expected to witness a generally cloudy sky with intermittent spells of light to moderate rainfall.
Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places, accompanied by lightning, thunder and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong winds and heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
The IMD said the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 31 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Tidal activity is expected to remain significant, with a high tide of 3.49 metres recorded at 7 am and another high tide of 3.62 metres forecast at 6.09 pm. The next low tides are expected at 12.29 pm (2.32 metres) and 1.06 am on July 10 (1.14 metres).
Rainfall data recorded between 8 am on July 8 and 8 am on July 9 showed the eastern suburbs receiving the highest precipitation at 39.37 mm, followed by the western suburbs at 28.85 mm. The island city recorded an average rainfall of 14.21 mm during the 24-hour period.
Meanwhile, rain lashed several parts of Delhi in the early hours of Thursday, extending the ongoing monsoon spell and providing much-needed relief from humid weather conditions, ANI reported.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for the national capital, forecasting heavy rainfall through most of the day.
Continuous showers led to waterlogging in several areas, including New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka and other parts of the city, affecting traffic movement and daily commuting.
The weather department said fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh until July 10. A fresh spell of rain is also expected to continue over Northeast Uttar Pradesh until July 13.
The monsoon remained active across North India on Wednesday, bringing relief from intense heat but also causing localised disruptions, reported ANI.
In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, overnight heavy rainfall triggered extensive waterlogging, significantly affecting vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement.
Meanwhile, parts of Rajasthan witnessed intense rainfall activity. In Dungarpur, heavy overnight rain accompanied by thunder and lightning caused flooding in several low-lying areas.
Water levels reportedly rose above three feet in parts of the old city, including Ghati, Kanera Pol, Mochi Bazar and Bhoiwada, disrupting normal life, the news agency reported.
With monsoon systems remaining active across several regions, weather officials have advised residents to remain cautious, especially in areas under weather alerts, as heavy rainfall, waterlogging and thunderstorms are likely to persist over the next few days.
