The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and other parts of Maharashtra, predicting hot weather, rains and thunderstorms.
The weather department predicted that hot and humid conditions would continue during the day and there was a possibility of light rain or thundershowers towards late afternoon or evening.
In its weather bulletin, it stated that the daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to settle around 28 degrees Celsius.
As per the weather bulletin, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Kolapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Akola, Yavatmal, Washim and Amravati districts of Maharashtra were under a yellow alert.
It stated, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, moderate rainfall and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places was very likely."
The residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
In a weather alert for Marathwada region, the Regional Meteorological Department (RMC), Mumbai, on Friday said, "Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rain, gusty winds with speed 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at a isolated places in the districts of North Konkan, North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada."
Despite the hot and humid weather, Mumbai's air quality remained in the 'Satisfactory' category on Friday.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) SAMEER App, the city's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 55, indicating minimal impact on public health.
Air quality varied across different parts of the city, with most monitoring stations recording AQI levels in the good-to-satisfactory range.
Bandra Kurla Complex recorded an AQI of 82, Borivali 56, Byculla 65, Andheri 34, Chembur 44, Colaba 103 and Ghatkopar 69.
Elsewhere in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), air quality continued to remain in the satisfactory category.
Thane recorded an AQI of 74, while Navi Mumbai registered an AQI of 58, with both cities maintaining satisfactory air quality levels.
