Thane: Car catches fire on Majiwada Bridge, driver and wife escape unhurt

A car caught fire on the Majiwada Bridge in Thane during the late hours of Wednesday. The incident caused a brief disruption in traffic. However, no injuries were reported as the driver and his wife managed to escape safely before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Disaster Management Cell, an alert regarding the incident was received at 11:31 pm on Wednesday, June 17. The fire occurred opposite Parking Plaza near Jupiter Hospital in Thane (West) while a Suzuki Swift Dzire was ascending the Majiwada Bridge.

No injuries reported

Officials said that the vehicle, owned by Amit Mahesh and being driven by Sattar Sayyad, was travelling from Mumbai to Mumbra when the fire broke out. Sensing danger, the driver and his wife immediately got out of the car, avoiding any injuries.

Following the alert, personnel from the TMC Disaster Management Cell rushed to the spot with a utility vehicle. Fire Brigade teams from the Pachpakhadi Fire Station arrived with a fire tender and a rescue vehicle, while Rabodi Police deployed a towing vehicle to assist in the operation.


Soon after reaching the site, firefighters brought the blaze under control and completely extinguished it by around 11:50 pm.

Furthermore, the charred vehicle was subsequently towed to the side of the road to clear traffic and prevent further inconvenience to commuters.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. However, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The TMC Disaster Management Cell said the emergency response was coordinated by personnel from the Fire Brigade, Disaster Management Cell and Rabodi Police Station, ensuring the situation was brought under control swiftly and safely.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, a three-wheeler driver sustained minor injuries after his vehicle rammed into a stationary garbage dumper on the Mumbai-Nashik lane of the Eastern Express Highway. The accident happened at Teen Hath Naka in Thane during the early hours of Wednesday, civic officials said.

As per Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) Disaster Management Cell, the accident was reported at around 2:28 am on June 17, leading to slow-moving traffic on the busy Mumbai-Nashik route for some time
