Residents in several parts of Thane will face a 24-hour water supply shutdown from noon on Thursday, May 21, to Friday, May 22. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), in an official statement, said that it will undertake urgent maintenance and upgradation work on the Barvi gravity pipeline network under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) water supply scheme.

According to civic officials, the decision follows a meeting held on April 23 between the water supply authorities and the water resources department. The move is part of a broader strategy to manage water resources efficiently until August 31, considering the current water deficit in the Andhra and Barvi dams and forecasts of lower-than-normal rainfall in the upcoming monsoon season.

As part of the works, upgradation, urgent maintenance, and repair operations will be carried out on Barvi Gravity Pipelines No 1, 2, and 3 at the reservoir located within the Jambhul Water Treatment Plant.

Areas impacted due to water cut

The MIDC supplies water to the Mumbra, Diva, Kalwa, Majiwada-Manpada, and parts of the Wagle ward committee areas under the TMC jurisdiction.

The 24-hour complete water shutdown will affect the following areas across the Thane district:

Officials from TMC cautioned that after the water supply resumes, the pressure will remain low for the next one to two days, which may impact regular supply schedules.

The civic body has also appealed to residents in the affected areas to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly during the shutdown period to avoid inconvenience.

Last month, TMC announced a 24-hour water cut in several parts of the city due to urgent maintenance and pipeline upgradation works under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation MIDC water supply scheme.

It had, accordingly, implemented a water cut across Thane from 12 pm on April 23 for a 24-hour period.
