Unidentified woman's body recovered from Thane lake; probe underway

The body of an unidentified woman was recovered from Ambe-Ghosale Lake near Castle Mill Circle in Thane West on Monday morning.

The incident was reported to the authorities at 9.25 am. The woman, believed to be between 55 and 60 years of age, was found floating in the lake located near Castle Mill Circle on Prabhakar Hegde Marg.

Personnel from the Rabodi Police Station, the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, and the fire brigade rushed to the spot. A rescue team, along with a fire engine, rescue vehicle, pickup vehicle, and an ambulance, was also deployed for the operation.

With the assistance of disaster management personnel and firefighters, the woman's body was retrieved from the lake and handed over to the Rabodi police for further investigation.

The body was later sent to the District Government Hospital in Thane for post-mortem examination and further legal formalities.

Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are working to establish the identity of the woman and ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death. Further investigation is underway.

Mumbai photographer held for drowning 10-year-old son after dispute with his wife

A 40-year-old photographer was arrested last month for allegedly drowning his 10-year-old son in the sea at Manori, with police suspecting he committed the crime to "teach his wife a lesson" following a domestic dispute.

The incident came to light after the Gorai police recovered the boy's body from Kolevem Beach.

During the investigation, police found that the boy and his father had been reported missing from Malvani on July 27 by the boy's mother.

The accused, identified as Bunty Kalidass Rao, was arrested on Thursday by the Malvani Police and later handed over to the Gorai Police, who are investigating the case.

As per the police officials, Rao worked as a photographer at Juhu Beach, where he clicked photographs of visitors. He lived in Madh with his wife, their 18-year-old daughter, and Yuvraj. Investigators said the couple frequently argued.

On Monday, following another quarrel with his wife, Rao allegedly left home with his son. When neither of them returned and Rao could not be contacted, his wife approached the Malvani Police and lodged a missing person's complaint.

The following day, Gorai Police recovered the boy's body from Kolevem Beach. While verifying missing person reports with neighbouring police stations, investigators found that a complaint had been registered at the Malvani Police Station regarding the disappearance of the father and son.

Police later traced Rao to his sister's residence in Versova, where he had allegedly been hiding. During questioning, Rao allegedly confessed to drowning his son and told investigators that he acted out of anger after a dispute with his wife, intending to punish her.

Police officials, while briefing further about the investigation, said that Rao had also informed his sister about the incident.

Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Nivatkar said, "The accused was apprehended by the Malvani police before being handed over to the Gorai Police for further investigation."

While further investigation is underway, officials said that a case of murder has been registered against Rao.
