The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a 12-hour water supply shutdown across several parts of the city on June 3 to undertake pre-monsoon maintenance and repair works at key water supply facilities.
According to a statement issued by the civic body on Thursday, maintenance work will be carried out at the high-pressure substations of the Pise pumping station and Temghar water purification centre, which are part of TMC's own water supply scheme. The work includes repairs to control panels, transformer oil filtration and other technical maintenance activities.
The shutdown will be in effect from 9 am to 9 pm on Wednesday, June 3.
In addition to TMC's own water supply scheme, water supply from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC)-managed Stem Authority will also remain suspended during the period.
As a result, water supply will remain completely shut in Ghodbunder Road, Lokmanya Nagar, Vartak Nagar, Saket, Rutu Park, Jail area, Gandhi Nagar, Rustomjee, Siddhachal, Indira Nagar, Rupadevi, Shree Nagar, Samata Nagar, Siddheshwar, Eternity Junction, Mumbra, and parts of Kalwa between 9 am and 9 pm.
The civic body further said that low-pressure water supply may continue in some areas for one to two days after the shutdown until normal supply is fully restored.
TMC has appealed to residents to store adequate water in advance and cooperate with the municipal administration during the maintenance work.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has imposed restrictions on washing vehicles at service centres across the city until June 10, as part of measures to address declining water reserves amid rising temperatures.
According to the Thane Municipal Corporation, the decision has been taken in response to a steady drop in water levels in reservoirs, as well as reduced groundwater availability in wells and borewells. The civic body said the restrictions are aimed at preventing a potential water shortage in the coming weeks.
Under the order, washing and cleaning of all types of vehicles - including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers - at service centres has been temporarily prohibited. The TMC stated that the measure is intended to curb non-essential water usage during a period of increased demand and limited supply.
