Truck hangs off Kasarvadavali Bridge after accident on Ghodbunder Road

A truck carrying around 12 tonnes of jaggery was left precariously hanging off the Kasarvadavali Bridge on Ghodbunder Road in Thane after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the median early on Friday. No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell.

The Disaster Management Cell said it received information about the accident at 9:10 am on July 3. The incident occurred on the Kasarvadavali Bridge near Titan Hospital, opposite Oscar Hospital, in Kasarvadavali, Thane (West).

Truck travelling from Pune to Dahanu

According to officials, the accident took place at around 5:00 am when the truck was travelling from Pune to Dahanu. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to ram into the bridge's median.

Following the impact, the truck became partially suspended over the bridge, hanging above the road below after striking the divider. Authorities have not reported any injuries to the driver or any other person.

The vehicle involved in the accident is a TATA truck bearing registration number MH 12 FC 6177. The truck is owned by Amol Kamathe and was being driven by Tushar Kamathe at the time of the accident.

Rescue and removal operation underway

Personnel from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, along with Traffic Police officials, rushed to the scene to secure the area and begin recovery operations.

The response team deployed one pickup vehicle, one JCB excavator, one Hydra crane, an additional crane, and Traffic Police personnel to facilitate the removal of the stranded truck.

Traffic movement likely to remain affected

Officials said efforts are underway to safely remove the accident-damaged truck from the bridge while ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians in the area.

Tempo catches fire on busy Thane road

In another incident, a tempo caught fire on the Ghodbunder Road in Maharashtra's Thane city on Wednesday morning, affecting vehicular movement on the busy carriageway, officials said.

No injuries were reported in the incident that occurred when the vehicle was on the Waghbil flyover, they said.

"An Eicher tempo transporting an export consignment of brass nuts and bolts caught fire. The driver stopped the vehicle and escaped just before it was engulfed in flames," said an official.

After being alerted, firefighters and other emergency personnel from the Thane civic body rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
