Two Chinese nationals were rescued from a Singapore-registered vessel, off Mumbai shore, early on Saturday morning.

The Indian coast guard was contacted by officials on this vessel, Mt Ocean Crown, which was traveling from India towards Brazil.

The maritime rescue coordination centre in Mumbai received a request from the master of the vessel to evacuate two of their crew members, who were injured, while working on the deck of the ship.

While they were provided first-aid on the ship, their injuries were severe.

"After ascertaining the medical emergency on board, the vessel was directed close to Mumbai shore as it was the closest port and a coast guard ship on patrol was sent to the vessel and at the same time, a helicopter was readied for the rescue operation," said Commandant Deepak Sharma, regional PRO.

Both men rescued were first flown to INS Shikra at Colaba and then subsequently rushed to Saifi hospital for further medical assistance. "Both are stable now," added Sharma.
