Deshmukh yesterday submitted a petition to district collector Saurabh Rao to revoke the deletion orders of voter's names made by the Election Registration officers.

Deshmukh demanded that Rao should not wait for citizens to file individual complaints in case of missing names from voter's list.

According to various citizens' groups, around 70,000 voters from Pune constituency could not vote on April 17, due to a large number of names getting deleted from the voter's list. "Using his discretionary powers, Rao should take up ERO's order's of deletion for suo motu revision," Deshmukh said.

She further added that many citizens and organisations have appealed for issuing a fresh date to facilitate voting for those whose names were deleted, before the election process of the Lok Sabha elections concludes on May 12. "The administration is waiting for citizens to file their individual complaints," she said.

BJP's Pune Lok Sabha constituency candidate Anil Shirole also lashed out at the district administration for misleading the voters by providing different versions of information.

"According to the information tabled before the High Court by the state government, Pune district administration has deleted only 1,340 names from the voter's list. By providing such information, the state government is not only misguiding the voters, but also the HC," stated Shirole.
