Andhra Pradesh: Four students killed, one injured after being hit by train in Srikakulam

Four students, who were crossing the railway track at Tekkali in Srikakulam district, were killed and one was injured after being hit by a train on Wednesday, a police official said.

Srikakulam district superintendent of police K V Maheshwar Reddy said the accident occurred around 1 pm at Ravivalasa area in Tekkali town.

"Four students died after being hit by a train and another was injured," Reddy told PTI, adding that the students were under 20 years and from nearby villages.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed sorrow over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, an official release said.

Officials informed the CM that the students did not notice the approaching train.

According to the surviving student, Solomon Raj, they all were attending calls of the nature when the accident occurred.

Raj is undergoing treatment in a local hospital, while Naidu instructed officials to extend aid to the affected families, the release added.
