A probe has been ordered after a video surfaced on social media and later went viral showing a man staging a sit-in protest on Old Airport Road in Karnataka's Bengaluru, allegedly claiming that his pregnant wife was stuck inside a vehicle due to a traffic halt for VIP movement.
According to the PTI, police said the incident occurred on Sunday and has since triggered widespread debate online over alleged VIP-related traffic restrictions.
As per the posts circulating on social media platform X, traffic on Old Airport Road was reportedly halted for the movement of the Governor's convoy.
The video, which has gone viral, shows a visibly distressed man sitting on the road in front of police personnel, refusing to move.
He is heard claiming that his pregnant wife was inside the vehicle and needed urgent medical attention.
The video, reportedly recorded by passersby and commuters, has drawn sharp reactions online, with users criticising the alleged prioritisation of VIP movement over public emergencies.
The video is being widely shared by social media users.
A user who shared the video said the road was blocked for nearly 30 minutes due to VIP movement, leaving commuters stranded amid ongoing underpass construction work in the area.
The post questioned whether public convenience was being given equal importance as VIP movement.
A senior traffic police officer stated that an inquiry has been initiated and that the facts are being verified, as per the PTI.
Officials said appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident has also reignited debate over VIP movement protocols in the city, with several social media users and public figures criticising the alleged inconvenience caused to commuters due to traffic.
Among those reacting online, IT veteran T V Mohandas Pai criticised what he called "VIP culture" and urged authorities to ensure better treatment of citizens, reported the PTI.
He also called for a review of traffic stoppages during VIP movements and alleged that citizens are often subjected to unnecessary delays and inconvenience.
The matter is now under investigation, with officials verifying the sequence of events, including whether traffic was halted for VIP movement and the circumstances faced by the complainant, the news agency reported.
Further details are awaited.
