Chhattisgarh boiler blast death toll climbs to 17; CM announces Rs 5 lakh relief for families

The death toll from a boiler explosion at Vedanta Ltd`s power plant in Chhattisgarh`s Sakti district has climbed to 17 after four more workers succumbed to injuries. The blast, which occurred on Tuesday in a high-pressure steam tube connecting the boiler to a turbine at Singhitarai village, left 19 others hospitalised in Raipur and Raigarh

The death toll in a blast at the Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district has gone up to 17 with four more workers succumbing to injuries, police said on Wednesday. The explosion occurred on Tuesday afternoon in a steel tube carrying high-pressure steam from the boiler to the turbine at the Vedanta Ltd power plant located in Singhitarai village.

Another 19 injured workers are undergoing treatment in hospitals in Raipur and Raigarh. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced a compensation of R5 lakh to the families of each deceased. Vedanta Power has also announced Rs 35 lakh compensation.
