A college student was killed and around 45 passengers were injured after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus allegedly overturned in Karnataka's Davanagere district on Friday, officials said, reported the PTI.
The accident took place near Marabanahalli while the bus was travelling from Davanagere to Honnali.
The 23-year-old deceased student was identified as Darshan, a resident of Kundru village in Honnali taluk, the news agency reported.
Police said he was pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree and was travelling on the bus to attend college when the accident occurred.
According to police officials, preliminary investigations suggest that the rear axle of the bus may have broken, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle overturned.
Superintendent of Police Shekhar H Tekkannavar said most passengers sustained minor injuries, including the driver.
Six passengers who suffered serious injuries were shifted to Manipal Hospital for advanced treatment, while others were treated at a hospital in Davanagere.
Following the accident, local residents gathered at the site and expressed concern over the shortage of KSRTC buses operating on the route, according to the PTI.
Police later brought the situation under control and cleared the area.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and examine the condition of the vehicle.
Meanwhile, in an another incident, three people were killed and nine others injured as a pick-up van collided with a truck in Bihar's Saran district on Friday, police said, as per the PTI.
The accident occurred near Banwar Dhala in the Daudpur Police Station area when the collision took place, a senior officer said.
Talking to PTI, Daudpur Station House Officer Kundan Kumar said, "Early in the morning, a pick-up van carrying 12 people collided with a truck near Banwar Dhala, leaving three dead and nine injured."
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the police were trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased and the injured, he added.
