Dr Vijay Suryawanshi. PIC/BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT
In a key administrative move, the Maharashtra government has appointed Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Dr Vijay Suryawanshi as the new municipal commissioner of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The appointment order was issued by the state's general administration department from Mantralaya on Wednesday.
Before being transferred to PCMC, Dr Suryawanshi was serving as the divisional commissioner of the Konkan Division in Mumbai.
According to an official communication signed by Deputy Secretary Sumant Bhange, Dr Suryawanshi has been directed to hand over the charge of his present post along with all the files and responsibilities to IAS officer Shravan Hardikar, secretary in the transport, ports and registration fee department before assuming his new role. Hardikar was temporarily handling the charge of PCMC for the past few months after the transfer of former Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh. \
The order further states that the departments concerned must complete the formal transfer procedures and update the posting details in the government's administrative systems, including the Supremo system, e-Office and e-HRMS. The officer taking charge has also been directed to submit the necessary joining and relieving reports to the government.
PCMC is one of the largest civic bodies in Maharashtra and administers the rapidly growing industrial township adjoining Pune. The appointment of Dr Suryawanshi as commissioner comes as the civic body continues to handle major infrastructure, urban development, and civic service projects in the region.
