Never try to board or alight from a moving vehicle

An actor has shared on Instagram that she was hospitalised following an incident at a railway station in the city. She stated on the social media platform that she met with the accident after she jumped off a moving train.

According to her account, the actor, who was wearing a saree, was heading to Churchgate for a shoot. As she boarded the train, it picked up speed, and she noticed her friends couldn't catch it. Out of fear, she jumped off, falling on her back and hitting her head.

The actor wrote that she is covered in bruises and her back is injured. Her head is swollen. She was advised to undergo MRI testing and was kept under observation for a day to ensure the head injury wasn't severe.

While this is an entertainer's account, it should serve as a huge warning for all of us boarding and alighting running trains, in fact, any vehicle. Even if somebody cannot board a train or is ‘left behind' as it starts moving, just get off at the next station instead of endangering oneself in this way. While trains may seem to be moving slowly just as they start, very often, this is an illusion, as they pick up speed very quickly, and it is difficult to keep one's balance once they are in motion.

This is also true when alighting. We often witness commuters leaping off ahead of the train as it comes to a complete halt. They run beside the train till they can regain their balance. Even Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport buses, though thankfully we see a lot less of this now have warnings telling commuters not to board or alight while the bus is in motion, as it may cost them their life.

It is always wise to miss that stop, miss a bus or train, do not think you can ‘catch' it. There will be other buses or trains. There will be
no other life.
