There has been no adverse flood impact reported so far in Indian territories bordering Nepal, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Inspector General Narendra Singh Bundela said on Thursday, as authorities stepped up monitoring following devastating floods in the neighbouring country.
Bundela said agencies are keeping a close watch on water discharge levels, particularly in vulnerable districts including Kushinagar and West Champaran.
According to Bundela, state governments and the Central Water Commission (CWC) are maintaining continuous surveillance, while field-level preparedness and sensitisation have already been completed.
Additional state resources have been deployed, with reserve NDRF teams kept ready to respond if flooding reaches Indian territory.
Bundela said the situation is being monitored for any possible downstream movement of floodwaters.
Flood preparedness has been intensified in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh following a sudden flash flood in Nepal and suspected glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) activity near the Nepal-China border.
The NDRF has deployed nine teams in Bihar and 11 in Uttar Pradesh, while authorities are closely watching the Gandak River for any rise in water levels.
The CWC has also advised authorities in the border areas of both states to remain vigilant.
India has also kept four specialised NDRF teams on standby in Ghaziabad for possible deployment to Nepal if requested.
Bundela said the teams can be moved rapidly depending on the actual requirement.
Meanwhile, India has already sent humanitarian supplies to flood-hit Nepal through Indian Air Force aircraft.
A second flight carrying 37.5 tonnes of humanitarian assistance, medicines and food packets has also departed.
Nepal has suffered extensive damage after a massive surge in the Bhote Koshi River, affecting homes, roads, bridges and hydropower facilities.
According to Nepal Embassy sources, 175 bodies have been recovered, while several people remain missing. Around 476 people from 28 countries have reportedly been reported missing, although authorities are still verifying the figures.
The disaster followed an avalanche that blocked the Lhende tributary of the Bhotekoshi, sending a sudden surge towards areas near the China border.
India has continued its humanitarian response, with the Embassy of India in Nepal earlier handing over 10 tonnes of relief material to Nepalese authorities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar have expressed solidarity with Nepal and assured the country of India's support as rescue and relief operations continue.
