LSG’s Nicholas Pooran in full flow against MI. Pic/Ashish Raje
Nicholas Pooran finally got back into form, top-scoring for LSG with a (21-ball 63, 1x4, 8x6) as the visitors posted 228-5 in 20 overs after being put in to bat by MI stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav at the Wankhede on Monday. Regular skipper Hardik Pandya was unwell [due to a back spasm], while former skipper Rohit Sharma returned as Impact Sub.
For LSG, Mitchell Marsh was the other key contributor (25-ball 44, 4x4s, 3x6s), while Corbin Bosch (2-20) was the pick of the MI bowlers.
Marsh began well, dispatching pacer Deepak Chahar (0-43) for a six over mid-wicket and a straight four in the very first over. At No. 3, Pooran started attacking at the outset. LSG reached their 50 in the fourth over, with Marsh smashing MI pacer spearhead Jasprit Bumrah (0-45) for a six and three fours.
Pooran then hammered offie Will Jacks (1-34) for a couple of sixes before repeating the act against spinner AM Ghazanfar (1-50) as LSG finished Powerplay at 90-2.
Pooran reached his 50 off just 16 balls with a fine hook shot for six off Chahar.
