Meta has introduced its latest AI-technology innovation in the form of smart sunglasses. The tech giant, in collaboration with Oakley, has launched its Meta-integrated eyewear, the âOakley HSTN'. The launch marks a new shift in the wearable technology segment that could reshape the smart-wearable market.
Marking a significant expansion of smart wearable technology in the country, the newly launched sunglasses - officially called Oakley Meta HSTN - come with a built-in camera, open-ear speakers and AI-driven features aimed at athletes and active users.
The companies said the device represents the merging of Oakley's sport-centric design with Meta's advances in AI and spatial computing.
Global President of Oakley, Caio Amato, speaking about the Oakley Meta glasses in India, said, "For 50 years, we've been pushing the boundaries of what is possible, obsessed with solving unsolved problems."
He added, "Together with Meta, we are setting new bounds of reality - it is not only about pushing forward performance, but also about amplifying human potential as never before. And this is just the first chapter of a new era for sports."
The Meta AI-integrated Oakley Meta sunglasses feature Ultra HD 3K video recording, allowing hands-free capture of moments through simple voice commands.
Users can not only record videos and take pictures while wearing the sunglasses, but Meta's AI integration also allows browsing through WhatsApp, Instagram and other applications using hand gestures.
Designed for outdoor and fitness activities, the AI-integrated sunglasses come with an IPX4 water-resistance rating and open-ear speakers that let users listen to audio while maintaining environmental awareness.
As a wearable accessory, the sunglasses offer a decent battery performance with up to eight hours of regular use, 19 hours on standby, and fast-charging support. The portable case provides an additional 48 hours of charge. Integrated with fitness applications such as Strava and Garmin, the device aims to streamline activity tracking.
Meta and Oakley have integrated AI voice interactions with Hindi language support, allowing users to issue commands, take photos or videos, and manage calls and messages in Hindi.
The Oakley Meta HSTN is priced at Rs 41,800. Pre-orders began on November 25, and the sunglasses are now available across multiple retail stores.
