According to a Congress MLC from city, a question he raised earlier in the House is slated to come up during ongoing assembly session in Nagpur, which forced three-member fact-finding committee set up by UoP to speed up inquiry process.
After a gap of two months, the three-member fact-finding committee set up by the University of Pune (UoP) to look into the alleged revaluation scam, finally submitted its report yesterday.u00a0The development seems to have been spurred by the fact that a question is slated to come up during the ongoing Nagpur state Legislative Assembly session shortly. A case pointing to a major revaluation scam was registered in the second week of October, but the enquiry committee did not seem forthcoming for the past 60 days.
Mohan Joshi, a Congress MLC from the city has raised a ‘Starred Question’ related to the alleged revaluation scam, which hit the UoP’s examination department in mid October.u00a0“It has been two months and still the fact-finding committee appointed by the UoP was sitting on the report. That’s why I raised a starred question during the session. Though the question has not yet been discussed, the assembly has surely asked the UoP to send its reply on the current status of the case,” Joshi said from Nagpur.u00a0

According to procedure, after receiving any question the assembly asks the parties involved to submit their written replies. Joshi believes that the sudden development has definitely come after the committee tasked with the inquiry by UoP was informed to prepare its reply.
“The assembly gives at least 10 days to the party to gather information. That’s how the UoP authority must be aware of the development,” Joshi said.
Meanwhile Controller of Examination (CoE) of UoP, Dr Sampada Joshi and one member of the fact-finding committee confirmed yesterday that the report has been submitted to UoP Vice-Chancellor Dr W N Gade.
“Today we submitted the final report to Dr W N Gade. After going through the report, the V-C will decide further course of action,” Sampada said.
Following the arrest of proxy students from Poona College in the second week of October, investigations revealed that around 16 students had paid to get their marks increased. Thereafter a committee, headed by retired ACP (Retd) Sharad Awasthi, was asked to investigate the possible involvement of insiders in the university’s examination department.u00a0
More time than assumed
After the fact-finding committee was appointed to look into the matter, Sharad Awasthi has said on October 16, “Without internal support from the examination department, such a scam could have not happened. Our investigations are in progress and we will get a clearer picture in the next three days.”
The city police may have busted the revaluation scam, which originated in Poona College and led investigators to the UoP’s exam department, but the officials are unaware of anything further.
When contacted, Police Inspector Nitin Jadhav of the Lashkar police station, said, “I don’t know when the fact-finding committee has submitted its report to the V-C. We have not received any call for assistance from the university authority yet. The UoP can either register a complaint with us, or they can take action against the culprits through their own mechanism, based on the conclusions of the report.” u00a0
