Cow slaughter ban: VHP asks Centre to honour HP High Court order

New Delhi: Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday welcomed Himachal Pradesh High Court order directing the Centre to consider enacting a law banning cow slaughter and asked the BJP-led dispensation to honour its 'commitment and public sentiments' within three months.

The right wing outfit also hoped that the Congress, which has already banned cow slaughter in many states during its tenure, and other political parties will leave their 'narrow political motives' and come forward to support the government in doing so.

"All concerned should come forward for the immediate compliance of the order. To honour its commitment, public sentiments, compliance of the court's order and constitutional provisions, the Union Government should not delay it any more," VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain said.

Attacking those opposing the ban, Jain said, "Nowadays, some so-called intellectuals are busy hurting Hindu sentiments by making a mockery of ban on cow slaughter for their vested interest.

"Now we hope that after this clear verdict of the High Court, they all will also support its implementation and stop defaming the Central Government."

The High Court has directed the Centre to consider enacting a law to ban cow slaughter and also put a complete ban on sale, export and import of beef and beef-products in India within next three months.

In its 36-page judgement, a division bench of the Court said secularism was one of the basic features of the Constitution of India and the people should not hurt the religious sentiments of each other.
