Around 1,000 teachers from all public universities and colleges in the state agitated at the higher education director's office in the city yesterday to protest against the failure of the government to meet their demands.

The protest saw the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation (MFUCTO) organising a rally from Shanivarwada to the Central Building.

The agitation was held to protest against state government for not making non-NET-SET teachers permanent and failing to give arrears according to the Sixth Pay Commission.

MFUCTO chairperson Prof Shivaji Patil and secretary Dr Tapati Mukhopadhyay addressed the rally. State higher education director Dr Prakash Gaikwad was not present in his office to interact with delegation of MFUTO.
