The Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan today expressed concern over the incidence of crimes against women and called for 'change of mindset, change of attitude and change of hearts' in society towards women.
In this connection, the Governor asserted that mere laws cannot address the problem.

The Governor said parents and teachers will have to assume responsibility to form the character of youths from the childhood.
He was speaking at the release of the book 'Desh Vibhajan Aur Nari Ki Trasadi' authored by Dr Lakhbir Kaur Verma in Mumbai on Friday, 17 May.
The book is a compilation of writings by various authors in various languages on the issue of the sufferings of women in the aftermath of the partition of India.
The Governor said that women are unfortunate victims of violence all over the world. He pointed out that more than six decades after the Partition of India, women continue to suffer violence, sexual exploitation and discrimination in society.
The Governor said that dowry is at the root of violence against women in many cases. He welcomed the observation of the Supreme Court that a daughter in law should be treated like a daughter.
