According to a report in India Today, the man detained by the police has been identified as David. Reportedly, he is a guard of one of Vijay's political party, TVK's (Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam) district secretaries.

Vijay's latest rally was held at the Expo Ground in Puducherry. Following the event, videos of supporters jumping the barricades have been going viral on social media. Notably, this marked Vijay’s first public meeting after the Karur stampede incident, which took place in September this year. According to reports, around 40 people had lost their lives during the incident, while around 100 were injured.

Ahead of the meeting, the Puducherry Police had reportedly issued a detailed advisory laying down strict safety and crowd control measures for the public. Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) R Kalaivanan stated that the attendance was strictly limited to 5,000 people, as per the request by Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.

The police also allegedly prohibited residents of neighbouring Tamil Nadu from entering the venue. People from the neighbouring regions were asked not to travel to Puducherry to avoid inconvenience. Similarly, entry was also denied to children, pregnant women and elderly persons as part of safety restrictions.

As part of the security measures, only individuals with a valid QR code pass, which were issued by the party, TVK, were allowed to enter the venue. Meanwhile, a parking facility was permitted at designated locations such as the Puducherry Marina, the rear side of the sports stadium, as well as the old port area.

The organisers were also directed to arrange drinking water, toilet facilities, ambulances, first aid medical teams, fire engines and proper enclosures at the venue of the rally. Notably, the police had earlier denied permission for a road show of Vijay, while allowing only the public meeting to be conducted under strict conditions.
