Though our reviewer feels that the product is priced higher than better touch phones, it has some nifty features

The problem with launching a mobile phone with a touch interface priced around Rs 35,000 is that almost everybody tends to ask one basic question why should we buy this when we can buy the iPhone for the same price? This is the question that we asked when we saw the Nokia N97, which is priced at Rs 36,119 as per the invoice accompanying the review unit.

But such comparisons may be unfair because mobiles may have features that may appeal to different people even if belonging to the same price segment.

Nice screen

But it has its good features. Though we liked the screen of the HTC Touch better, this screen is also very sharp. But one problem is that, when you rotate the phone, there is a time lag. Maybe Nokia should try and provide a software patch to prevent this mildly irritating feature.

The stylus is also useful if you want to use the screen in keypad mode (that is, if you don't want to open the unit and use the physical keyboard), but in some cases, you need a double tap, while in other cases a single tap will do. While this is not a major issue, it takes some getting used to.

Cool keyboard

One of the nicest features of the N97, from the usability angle, is the keyboard. The keys are comfortable and the gaps between the keys ensure that you don't type the wrong keys, and so you can type out messages without facing any hassles. And if you are the kind that takes regular pictures, then the Carl Zeiss 5MP camera may mean that you don't need to carry any other camera at all.

It is very hard for us to pronounce a verdict and compare it with the iPhone. But we can say one thing this is a keep-in-touch phone that addresses various modes of communication like voice, SMS, Facebook and e-mail. So, if you want to always be connected and use one device to choose between multiple modes of keeping in touch then this could be the right product for you.
