Mumbai Police have launched an investigation after finding 'stunt videos' of a minor involved in last week’s Ghatkopar accident that left a couple critically injured after a speeding car.

The vehicle was allegedly driven by a 17-year-old, rammed into their scooter near Somaiya College in Vidyavihar, officials said on Tuesday, according to PTI.

Police have recovered multiple videos showing the minor accused performing stunts on public roads. Several clips of the teenager and his friends posing with high-end cars and carrying out dangerous stunts surfaced on social media after the accident. Investigators are examining whether similar reckless behaviour had occurred earlier and are verifying the locations where the stunts were filmed, as well as checking if any prior cases were reported there.

The accident took place around 11.15 pm on February 5 near Gate No. 3 of Somaiya College on Tansa Pipeline Road. Dhurmil Premji Patel, 33, who runs a plywood business, and his wife Minal Patel, 32, a private tutor, were returning home to Ghatkopar West from their shop in Parel when the Kia Seltos allegedly hit their two-wheeler at high speed while coming from the opposite direction.

Both were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital and later shifted to Zynova Shalby Hospital due to the severity of their injuries. Dhurmil Patel is currently on ventilator support, while Minal Patel remains in critical condition with severe internal injuries.

The car involved in the accident was allegedly owned by Valji Raja Bhushan. Further investigation is underway.

Family alleges minor was speeding at 120 kmph

A member of the Patel family said, “He [the minor] was driving rashly and witnesses said the vehicle was moving at around 120 kph. We found Instagram reels of car and bike stunts with his friends, which were deleted after the incident. Videos showed stunts on the same road in daylight, with people lying on the bonnet and roof of a moving car, as well as triple-seating on a two-wheeler and performing wheelies.”

Who was driving

Age: 17 years
Licence: None
Minor status verified through Aadhaar and birth certificate

Father booked for negligence
The complaint was filed by Mahesh Karamsi Patel, the uncle of Ghumil Patel, after he was informed about the accident by a family
friend in the early hours of Friday.

FIR registered

Both vehicles involved in the accident were completely damaged. Confirming the action taken, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Shaikh told mid-day, “We have registered an FIR against the car owner and are investigating the matter.”
