The southwest monsoon is likely to begin withdrawal from Maharashtra's Vidarbha region around October 10, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Monday, reported the PTI.

A yellow alert has been issued for Nagpur, Wardha, Gondia, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal, and Amravati districts in Maharashtra, with a prediction of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning at isolated or several locations starting Monday, the official said, according to the PTI.
Dr Praveen Kumar, scientist at the regional meteorological department in Nagpur, said that light to moderate rain spells are expected to continue across parts of Vidarbha for the next three days.
A gradual decrease in rainfall intensity and spatial distribution is likely from October 9 or 10, he said.
The normal date for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from Vidarbha is around October 10, and the entire region usually experiences complete withdrawal by October 15 as per the climatological normal, the official said, the news agency reported.
The IMD has also forecast the possibility of light to moderate intermittent rains over parts of the South Marathwada region and adjoining districts of Vidarbha during the next two to three hours.
Meanwhile, former head of the Climate Research and Services, IMD Pune, KS Hosalikar, while posting on social media platform X, said, “Possibility of light to moderate intermittent showers during the next 2–3 hours over parts of the South Marathwada region and adjacent districts of Vidarbha at isolated places.”
Kosalikar further posted the detailed rainfall data till October 5. As per the official data, Parbhani taluka received the highest rainfall at 121.4 mm, followed by Palam (73 mm), Gangakhed (56 mm), Purna (55 mm), Sonpeth (51 mm), Manwat (44 mm), Pathri (21 mm), Jintur (7 mm), and Selu (5 mm).
Considering that the IMD further forecasted the possibility of light to moderate intermittent showers over parts of South Marathwada and adjoining districts of Vidarbha during the next two to three hours at isolated locations, a yellow alert for the regions was already issued by the authorities.
