One person was killed after a major fire broke out in a Azad Nagar slum near Bhayandar in Maharashtra's Thane district neighbouring Mumbai on Wednesday morning, destroying several huts and shops.

One person died and several others were injured in the incident. The fire is now under control.

According to police officials, the fire broke out around 4:30 am at the Azad Nagar slum. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The fire brigade rescued dozens of people who were trapped at the scene.

The occupants of huts and other residents of the locality ran out of their homes after the blaze erupted.
