A woman who arrived at the Santacruz Traffic Department’s towing yard to retrieve her car allegedly drove it away without paying the towing and no-parking charges, nearly running over two constables in the process, on Saturday afternoon. An FIR has been registered for rash driving, endangering police personnel, and obstructing government work.
The complaint was filed by Constable Pravin Dagdu Shewale, the wireless operator posted at the Santacruz traffic division. The police said the incident took place on November 22, around 2 pm. Earlier that afternoon, a red Kia Sonet had been found parked in a no-parking zone near PH Medical on Juhu Tara Road. Despite repeated megaphone announcements by Head Constable Rathod, no one responded, and the vehicle was towed to the yard. An e-challan entry was made.
Around 2 pm, the woman reached the towing yard and began shouting at the towing staff — Ritesh Singh and Raj Yadav of Vidarbha Towing Service — and at Constable Shingade, demanding her vehicle back. She then entered the Kia Sonet, inserted the key and tried to drive out. When Shewale and Shingade stopped her and told her to first complete the formalities and pay the charges, she allegedly accelerated the car towards them. Both had to step aside to avoid being hit.
Despite their attempts to stop her, the woman drove out of the premises and fled. Police later found the vehicle had 10 pending traffic fines amounting to Rs 7500. Shewale informed his seniors and submitted photographic evidence. Based on his complaint, the Santacruz police have registered an FIR and are tracing the woman.
