An official on Wednesday said that the police registered a criminal case against unidentified persons after an iron rod fell from a metro rail construction site in Bhiwandi on a moving autorickshaw and pierced the head of a passenger, reported news agency PTI.
The passenger, identified as Sonuali Shaikh, was seriously injured in the incident on Tuesday, reported PTI.
The accident occurred around 2 pm in Bhiwandi city, where the first phase of the Thane-Bhiwandi Metro Line is under construction, an official said, reported PTI.
He said a 7 to 8 feet-long iron rod fell from the overhead metro construction structure and struck a passing autorickshaw below.
The profusely bleeding Shaikh was rushed to a hospital where a surgery was conducted for five hours to remove the iron rod, police said, reported PTI.
Police booked a case under section 125 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS against the unidentified persons.
Further investigation is underway.
Real estate agent nabbed with pistol, 2 'live' cartridges near forensic laboratory in Mumbai
In another case, the police on Wednesday arrested a real estate agent from near a forensic science laboratory in Mumbai and seized a pistol and two 'live' cartridges from him, an official said, reported PTI.
According to the official, the arrested man was identified as Sagar Heeralal Rajbhar (37), a resident of Kalyan in adjoining Thane district, reported PTI.
Crime Branch sleuths laid a trap after getting a tip-off that a man was coming to Hans Bhugra Road near the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Kalina in Santacruz (East) to deliver a firearm and cartridges, he said, reported PTI.
The crime branch caught the man when he arrived at the spot and seized a pistol and two 'live' cartridges from him, the official said.
During interrogation, it came to light Rajbhar worked as a real estate agent. However, it was not yet clear from where he had sourced the firearm and to whom he was going to deliver it, he stated, reported PTI.
The accused was arrested under relevant sections of the Arms Act and further investigation was underway, the official added.
