On Tuesday, as the IMD issued a red alert for Mumbai, the city and neighbouring Thane witnessed heavy rains that brought widespread chaos, leading to traffic snarls, waterlogged roads, and severe disruptions.

In Thane West, severe waterlogging was reported near the Tehsildar Office and the Anti-Corruption Office at Court Naka around 9:44 am. The incident, reported to the Disaster Management Cell by the Jawharbig Fire Station, did not cause any injuries.

Another case of waterlogging was reported near Wavikar Hospital at Sainath Nagar, Majiwada, around 9:25 am by local representative Mr D’Souza. Officials said complaints have been forwarded to the concerned departments for prompt action. Water accumulation was also confirmed in the Vrindavan area.

In Mumbai, traffic police reported slow vehicular movement at multiple junctions due to waterlogging. At Oberoi Junction, BMC staff and on-duty police personnel were deployed to manage congestion. In Parel, traffic police assisted in removing a vehicle that was stuck in waterlogging at Shirodkar Market.

Heavy waterlogging of around one to one-and-a-half feet was recorded at Shanti Nagar Paper Box in MIDC, leading to slow traffic movement. Similar congestion was reported at Gandhi Nagar Junction in Vikhroli and Surve Junction in Kurla. On the Eastern Freeway, southbound traffic near Wadala’s Poll No. 107 was affected after a taxi broke down amid the heavy rain. The Shilphata Road is heavily jammed, and Khardi–Diva Road is waterlogged.

Areas with heavy pedestrian and vehicular movement, such as Elphinstone Bridge and Andheri Subway, are flooded with rainwater, forcing people to wade through waterlogged roads to make their way.

Heavy rains left several key stretches in Andheri and beyond waterlogged on Tuesday, disrupting both road and rail movement. Along with the Andheri Subway, waterlogging was reported at RTO Office Lane in Andheri West, the Western Express Highway under Gundavali Metro, and near Bhavan’s College at DN Nagar. Dighe railway station also witnessed flooding, affecting commuters.

On Swami Vivekananda Road in Andheri West, a BEST bus was stranded in knee-deep water, where traffic police and a bus conductor stepped in to help passengers safely get out.

Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution and expect delays in low-lying areas.
