Rajappa became infamous after murdering Naveena in broad daylight on the first floor of Karnataka High Court.
Rajappa had lost hope, after Naveena turned down his proposal of marriage. He later admitted that the murder was pre-planned.
On the day of the murder, sources said that he had slapped Naveena over heated arguments over the issue, and had decided to bring a 'closure' of sorts. He was carrying a knife and a bottle of poison with him.
After stabbing Naveena, Rajappa ran towards the men's toilet, and slit his throat with the same weapon, and consumed poison. Naveena died on the spot as she had multiple injuries, but Rajappa survived, and was taken to the Mallya Hospital where he was treated and brought out of danger.
Sources said that even at the hospital, Rajappa made another attempt to kill himself. The doctors had to tie him up to neutralise him.
After Rajappa was out of danger he was shifted to the Victoria Hospital as the medical bills were piling up. His family was also not in a position to pay as they are from a humble background.
Two months later, Rajappa was produced before the 8th ACM court, where he confessed and made a deposition, "I took this extreme step when she rejected my proposal for marriage and started an affair with another senior advocate.

In fact, she was the one who proposed me first. I was reluctant at first because I am from a humble background, but later we fell in love."
He added, "We were in a live-in relationship. I had even loaned her Rs 60,000 when her brother had met with an accident and was admitted at a hospital in Wilson Garden in April.
We had planned to marry in Shravanabelagola, but it didn't happen. A few days later, she told me that her parents didn't approve of our relationship. I later came to know that she was having an affair with a senior advocate."
