Residents protest over water shortage

Nearly 300 Okalipuram residents staged a protest yesterday, against the irregular supply of water by the BBMP. They claimed that there had been no water in the area since one week, and they had had to shell out money for tap water.

An angry mob surrounded Achar, the valve repairman for his inability to correct the defect in the pipeline, and demanded that he be sacked. But after the media arrived, former counselor Chakravarthy rushed to the spot, and pacified the mob, and urged them to go back to their homes.

Residents alleged that the water supply had stopped completely because people from the neighbouring area had blocked the valve that connects Okalipuram. Achar said, " I am doing all I can, but the main pipeline has many sub-connections."
