A total of 14 participants from seven countries — France, South Africa, Belgium, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Colombia — attended the opening ceremony.
The participants were given a demonstration of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and briefed by senior ECI officials on various aspects of election management, including electoral roll preparation and poll process in India.
As part of the programme, the delegates will undertake a two-day visit, starting Wednesday, to Bihar where they will tour EVM dispatch centres and observe polling during Phase-1 of the Bihar Assembly Elections on Thursday.
IEVP is ECI’s flagship international cooperation initiative, aimed at strengthening engagement with Election Management Bodies (EMBs) worldwide and promoting the exchange of best practices.
Introduced in 2014, the programme has been instrumental in showcasing India’s electoral process to the global community and reinforcing the country’s reputation as the world’s largest democracy.
