A 36-year-old man’s death in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, first reported as accidental electrocution, has now been confirmed as murder after police uncovered chats between the victim’s wife and his cousin. The victim, Karan Dev, was found dead on July 13, with his wife Sushmita claiming he was electrocuted. The family initially refused a post-mortem, but police insisted due to his young age.
Days later, Karan’s brother, Kunal, found chats exposing Sushmita and Rahul — Karan’s cousin — plotting the murder. The chats showed they mixed sleeping pills in his food and, when he didn’t lose consciousness, decided to electrocute him to make it look accidental.
“It’s been three hours since he ate food. No vomiting, no potty, nothing. And no death yet either,” said Sushmita in chats with Rahul. Both accused have been arrested and confessed during questioning. Sushmita allegedly told investigators that Karan often assaulted her and demanded money.
