The Indian Navy is set to commission Androth, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at a special ceremony on October 6, 2025 at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, an official statement said on Sunday.
The event will be led by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, it said.
The statement further said that Androth has been built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata and is a major step forward in India’s efforts to build its own defence equipment.
The ship is more than 80 per cent made in India, showing strong progress towards self-reliance in defence, also known as Aatmanirbharta, it said.
This new ship will boost the Indian Navy’s ability to track and fight enemy submarines, especially in shallow and coastal waters. It also adds to the Navy’s focus on using new technology and strengthening Indian-made solutions.
The addition of Androth follows the recent induction of other modern ships such as Arnala, Nistar, Udaygiri, and Nilgiri. All these vessels show the Navy’s balanced growth in all types of naval operations and highlight India’s strong shipbuilding industry.
With Androth, the Navy continues to move forward in its goals of indigenisation, innovation, and enhanced defence capability at sea, the statement said.
