In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old man from Palghar in Maharashtra allegedly died by suicide after recording a video in which he accused his wife, in-laws and his own father of persistent harassment, PTI reported, quoting the police.
A case of suicide abetment has been registered against the victim's wife, father, and in-laws, the police said on Monday.
The man was found dead at his residence in Parasnath Nagari area of Naigaon on the evening of September 25, PTI reported.
The local police were informed after his mother returned home and found him dead.
The victim had allegedly been facing harassment from his wife, in-laws, and even his own father for more than a year, PTI reported, quoting Naigaon Police.
He recorded a video message before taking the extreme step, in which he had blamed them for his distress and complained that their constant harassment made him take his life, a police officer said, according to PTI.
The video was apparently shared with the victim's wife by his brother shortly after the incident, the officer said.
A police complaint lodged by the victim's brother claimed that since last year, he had been subjected to repeated assaults, false allegations, and court disputes instigated by the accused.
Based on the complaint, the Naigaon Police on Friday registered a case against the man's wife, father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the officer noted.
The police were verifying the allegations made in the complaint and the contents of the video, he added.
19-year-old student dies by suicide in Hyderabad after allegedly being harassed over financial dispute
A 19-year-old engineering student allegedly died by suicide in Hyderabad after being "harassed" over a financial dispute, news agency PTI reported on Monday, quoting police. The body of the Adilabad native was found from his room at a private hostel in Narapally on Sunday night. According to police, it was not a case of ragging.
A group of friends went to party at a bar, where an argument over splitting the bill led to an altercation, according to preliminary investigation.
The student was also allegedly assaulted by some local youths, PTI reported.
In a purported video, recorded before taking the extreme step, the victim said some people demanded money and insulted him. He also claimed that they threatened and assaulted him, PTI reported.
The student further said they took him to a bar and was forced to consume alcohol and foot the bill of Rs 10,000.
Based on a complaint by the student's father, a case of abetment of suicide and extortion was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as the Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST) (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Further investigation is on.
